Head Coach Chris Hannemann has built his coaching career around pushing the boundaries of junior beach volleyball development and creating opportunities for female athletes to reach the highest levels of the game. In 2015, Chris and his wife Ariana founded Dakine Volleyball Club based in Tacoma WA, quickly developing it into the premier indoor and beach programs in the Northwest. Under their leadership, Dakine sent more athletes to top NCAA Division I beach volleyball programs than the rest of the region’s indoor and beach clubs combined. Chris has also been a contributing writer for the JVA and a two-time presenter at the AVCA National Convention. One of the most respected Juniors coaches in the country, Chris continues to travel and do beach training clinics for both Colleges and Junior Beach Clubs across the country.

As a professional beach player, Chris won beach volleyball championships in five countries, along with major U.S. titles including two Motherlode Championships, two Seaside Championships and a Jose Cuervo National Championship. His career includes one of pro beach volleyball’s biggest upsets ever: as the 32nd seed at the 1993 Chicago AVP Grand Prix, Chris and Daniel Cardenas defeated the No.1-seeded team of Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes. An undersized blocker who competed successfully at the highest levels, Chris brings that experience directly into his coaching—teaching athletes the skills, competitive mindset and confidence needed to exceed expectations and reach the next level.
